Jackpine opened its doors for business in the late summer of 1977 when Lee, Jon and Jeff Trucks started a small quick printing company on River Street. Shortly after opening they could see a need for a complete office supply business for the area. So after purchasing the building at their current location, Jackpine expanded to selling office supplies and furniture as well as printing in the fall of 1981. In 1986 a Ludington branch was opened in what was then called Giant Plaza.
Over the years Jackpine has seen continued growth and have expanded into computers sales and service as well as internet access, web hosting and design. Today Jackpine has 14 employees and services Manistee, Mason, Benzie, Oceana, Wexford, Lake Osceola and Newaygo Counties for Office Supplies, Furniture, Printing, Computer Sales and Service, as well as Internet services.
Actually… who was? Jack Pine was a lumberjack, contemporaneous with Paul Bunyan. He was a scrawny, scruffy, ugly and indestructible reprobate whose greatest achievement in life was survival. He endured through a combination of cunning, tenacity and sheer cussedness and when he died his brother lumberjacks buried him in the sand on a cut-over section between two white pine stumps. Legend has it that what we now know as Jack Pines grew from his grave site and spread throughout North America where they can still be found…scrawny, scruffy, ugly and growing where no other trees want to grow.
